Costa Rica Mission Trip

It’s been 10 months since I went on the mission trip to Costa RicaΒ in 2015 last summer. I didn’t post anything about it, so I thought I’d post some pictures and reminisce about it.

A little throwback, I guess. πŸ™‚

Our team stayed in Costa Rica for about a week and during our stay there, we renovated a pastor’s house and the church as well as spending time with the locals.

Before we went to Costa Rica, our team met up every Saturday to learn a bit of Spanish and to prep ourself for the trip. But, to be quite honest I didn’t pay much attention to any of it, I thought I would just wing it. After all I did know *some* Spanish, and what more would I need? (yes I do realize I was VERY ignorant) BIG MISTAKE. On the day we got to play with the kids, I was inwardly berating myself for not practising more before I went. I felt so frustrated by the barrier of the language. Β Like when our youth group did face painting, I had no idea what they were all saying, so poor Cristina had to help all of us by translating what they wanted. But nevertheless, we had an amazing time bonding with those children. Even if we couldn’t properly communicate with them, I feel like all of us felt connected to one another and the fact that we are ALL God’s children.

Iglesia de Luz

Something I noticed within the Iglesia de Luz congregation is that they worshipped and praised fervently. I’ve been in this kind of atmosphere having lived in Tanzania, but it was nice to see such strong passion for Christ in a different part of the world. Also despite the fact most of our team members had no clue what the lyrics meant, it was the idea that we came together to worship and listen to the word of God that made the whole experience memorable.

Anyhoo, the whole trip was an amazing experience for me as an MK and I hope that there will be more opportunities to travel and see the world.
